A pink diamond and a big one at that. You get a feeling that it was created to create a new per carat record. Yes, another big pink diamond will test its luck at Sotheby’s this fall. It is all of 24,78 carat Fancy Intense Pink diamond that was last seen on the market 60 years ago, when it was purchased from Harry Winston. It is coming back to the market and will be auctioned off at Sotheby’s Geneva on November 16, 2010.
The emerald-cut stone is mounted in a ring. It is a rare stone and is destined to be part of the type II A classification. This is a rare type of stone that represents less than two percent of all of the world’s gem diamonds. The stone is currently graded as VVS2 clarity. But it is possible the stones clarity is being underestimated. A report from the Gemological Institute of America states that the stone may be internally flawless after re polishing.
There is a buzz in the market after a five-carat pink stone sold for $10.8 million last year, setting a new per carat record. It might be broken soon as the pre sale estimates for this pink diamond is $27 to $38 million.
